Dedicated Professionals in Scoliosis Treatment

QLD Scoliosis Clinic, a leading center dedicated to the specialized care of individuals with scoliosis. We understand the complexities and challenges associated with scoliosis clinical features and are committed to offering exceptional scoliosis treatment solutions. Our clinic operates with a profound belief that maintaining a healthy spine is fundamental to overall well-being. Thus, our core mission revolves around delivering a personalized, evidence-based approach to treating scoliosis, ensuring that every aspect of our patients' physical, emotional, and mental health is addressed.

Scoliosis, a condition characterized by an abnormal curvature of the spine, demands expert attention and a nuanced understanding of its symptoms of scoliosis. Our clinic, staffed by experienced physiotherapists trained in the Schroth Method, is uniquely equipped to meet these demands. This specialized training ensures that our patients benefit from the highest standard of care, tailored specifically to the individual's needs and the nature of their spinal curve.

For our younger patients, particularly during critical growth periods, we provide custom-made scoliosis braces. These braces serve as an invaluable tool in preventing further curve progression. Additionally, our collaborative approach extends to working closely with scoliosis surgeons, enabling us to offer comprehensive pre and post-rehabilitation programs tailored specifically to candidates undergoing spinal fusion surgery. By bridging the gap between conservative and surgical interventions, we ensure continuity of care and optimal outcomes for our patients.

At QLD Scoliosis Clinic, we recognize that scoliosis treatment is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Our approach is highly individualized, focusing on specialized scoliosis exercises, postural education, targeted manual therapy, and practical lifestyle adjustments. These interventions are crucial not only for managing the condition effectively but also for preventing the progression of the spinal curvature. For many, this comprehensive strategy significantly enhances their quality of life, allowing them to live more comfortably with mild scoliosis.

For children and adolescents, who are especially vulnerable during their critical growth periods, our clinic provides custom-made scoliosis braces. These braces are an essential component of our treatment arsenal, designed to prevent further progression of the spinal curvature. Recognizing the importance of a collaborative approach in the management of scoliosis, we work closely with surgeons specialized in the field. This collaboration enables us to offer comprehensive pre- and post-surgical rehabilitation programs for patients undergoing spinal fusion surgery, ensuring a continuum of care that bridges conservative and surgical interventions.

Unsure if you have scoliosis or kyphosis? You can book for a comprehensive initial appointment with one of our physiotherapists. Regular scoliosis screening is crucial to catch the condition in its early stages. It's particularly important for children and adolescents who are at a higher risk, including those in the midst of growth spurts or with a family history of scoliosis.

FAQ

Can my spine become straighter?

The potential for your spine to become straighter is influenced by several factors, including age, the degree of curvature of the spine, and the specific cause of what is scoliosis. In adults with scoliosis, the possibility of significantly straightening the spine is generally lower since bone growth has ceased, stabilizing the curved spine. Nonetheless, non-surgical treatments such as physiotherapy for scoliosis can play a crucial role in enhancing posture, alleviating pain, and improving flexibility, thereby contributing to an improved quality of life.

What is the difference between QLD Scoliosis Clinics and other physiotherapy clinics?

QLD Scoliosis Clinics stand apart from conventional physiotherapy clinics through its singular focus on scoliosis clinical features. Unlike general physiotherapy clinics, our specialists are proficient in the Schroth Method, a scientifically endorsed and internationally recognized approach to managing scoliosis of the spine. This specialization ensures that our treatment plans are not only personalized but also rooted in evidence, offering significant benefits to our patients' well-being.

What is the Schroth Method?

Developed in the 1920s by Katharina Schroth, the Schroth Method represents a cornerstone of non-surgical scoliosis treatment. This method, categorized under physiotherapeutic scoliosis-specific exercises (PSSE), aims to counteract, elongate, and stabilize the spine three-dimensionally. Tailored to each patient's unique spinal curvature, the exercises target muscular symmetry and posture alignment, providing a customized approach to managing types of scoliosis.

Despite its proven effectiveness, certified Schroth Method practitioners remain relatively scarce in Australia and globally, underscoring the need for broader recognition of this scoliosis therapy for adults.

Does scoliosis bracing work?

Scoliosis bracing is designed to manage the progression of spinal curvature, particularly during growth spurts in individuals with moderate to severe scoliosis. While it doesn't cure it, bracing plays a pivotal role in controlling curvature of the spine in patients with a Cobb angle ranging from 25 to 45 degrees. The effectiveness of bracing as a component of comprehensive scoliosis treatment is supported by a substantial research foundation, including the 2013 "Bracing in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis Trial (BrAIST)" published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

This study highlighted bracing's ability to significantly reduce the need for scoliosis surgeries in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, showcasing a 72% success rate among brace users compared to a 48% success rate in the observation group.
